Focus groups on spatial scholarship @ Dalhousie

Posted by Environmental Science, Faculty of Science on November 19, 2014 in General Announcements

Spatial scholarship is focused on the exploration space and place as central aspects to the pursuit of discovery, analysis, and integration of information; it is a cross-cutting disciplinary theme at Dalhousie.

The results of a recent Dalhousie survey, based on more than 140 responses, show that scholars from a broad spectrum of disciplinary interests engage in spatial scholarship, including atmospheric change and land use management, architecture, community design and urban planning, environmental health and epidemiology, ecological modeling, hydrology and watershed research, ocean ecology, history and studies of social media.

As a follow up to the survey we will be conducting focus group interviews with the Dalhousie community. The aim of these focus groups is two-fold. The first is to understand more clearly what kinds of spatial scholarship occur among disciplines and subject areas. The second is to explore how spatial scholarship can be better advanced and supported at Dalhousie University.

Focus group meetings will be held at the following dates, times and locations (campuses):
1. Thursday, November 27, 2014 @ 9:30am in Room 5001 of the Rowe Management Bldg (Studley)
2. Thursday, November 27, 2014 @ 5:00pm in Room HB2 of the Medjuck Architecture Bldg (Sexton)
3. Friday, November 28, 2014 @ 10:00am in the Dairy Building Board Room, 11 River Road at the Faculty of Agriculture (Truro)
