Effective Minute Taking

Minute taking is a needs-based skill required by employees at all levels of an organization. This interactive workshop will help equip individuals to prepare minutes that accurately and succinctly reflect the content and substance of a meeting. The workshop’s goals are to:

enhance listening skills to better distinguish substantive issues and keywords
develop note-taking skills that facilitate transcription and highlight important points
develop memory-enhancing techniques to facilitate minute preparation
understand the components of running an effective meeting

The course will include:

Facilitated discussion
Individual skill-building exercises
Group exercises
Knowledge transfer
Presentation of information

Learning outcomes

Participants in this course will:

develop enhanced note-taking skills
be better able to distinguish important information from irrelevant material
be able to more effectively prepare for minute taking
write more effective and comprehensive minutes
be better able to run a meeting

Who should attend?

Individuals take minutes as part of their job, sit on committees and other groups where minute taking is or may be required, prepare minutes and/or meeting agendas, and chair or coordinate meetings will benefit from this workshop.

donalee Moulton has more than 25 years experience in communications and facilitation. She is the owner of Quantum Communications, a full-service public relations and training firm based in Halifax.
