Back in August, the Ocean Tracking Network and Dalhousie's marine biology students invited popular Canadian TV personality Rick Mercer on a shark-tagging research mission. Two hours off the coast of Nova Scotia, the researchers and students demonstrated the importance of ocean research while showing Rick how to catch, tag and safely release juvenile blue sharks. The sharks' movements and behaviours can now be tracked and analyzed to help us better understand the health of our oceans, and further, which marine areas need to be protected for the purpose of conservation.
