Paul Hutchinson visits campus

Posted by Communications and Marketing w/ HR, Multifaith Centre on October 15, 2014 in Community Highlights

This week Paul Hutchinson, filmmaker, former director of the Corrymeela Centre and international expert on conflict resolution, is at Dalhousie for a series of events with Dal's Multifaith Centre, Human Resources and others.

Hutchinson, who last visited campus in February, has returned to share his experiences with peace and reconciliation through the context of Northern Ireland, and offer insight into re-imagining the idea of community. His events include a student leadership workshop tonight (Wednesday) and a "lunch and learn" event on Friday for employees: Conflict and the Healthy Workplace: Strategies for Success.

-Wednesday, October 15th 6:30-8:30pm SUB 224
Student leadership workshop on the concept of upstanding instead of bystanding. By using examples of peace and reconciliation practices in Northern Ireland, Paul Hutchinson and Martha Martin will help students understand the concept and hopefully these student leaders will begin to see themselves as upstanders.

Conflict and the Healthy Workplace: Strategies for Success
Paul will help participants begin to understand conflict and encourage them to come up with their own ways of dealing with conflict in the workplace.

In addition, Paul will be participating in a coffee house to help support the Dalhousie Northern Ireland Dialogue for Peace Study Trip, working with students and community members who will be traveling to Northern Ireland in the coming months and will be a guest lecturer for an alternative dispute resolution course in the Schulich School of Law.
