In honour of its 35th anniversary, the Association of Black Social Workers (ASBW) held a three day conference on September 25-27th entitled 'Moving Forward: "Pathways to Culturally Competent” Practice with People of African Descent."

School of Social Work professor Dr. Wanda Thomas Bernard, who is also one of the founding members of ASBW, was a speaker at the conference which welcomed more than 200 guests and hosted over 60 workshops on various social issues such as mental health, addictions, criminal justice and family preservation.

The Dalhousie School of Social Work was a platinum sponsor of the conference and has been a community partner of ABSW for many years.

Congratulations to the ASBW on marking this milestone and to all of the conference organizers on a successful event!
