Healthy Workplaces: Spiritual Wellness

Posted by Human Resources on August 19, 2014 in Human Resources

In anticipation of the call for submissions for the 2014 Healthy Workplace Award at Dalhousie, this post will highlight Spiritual Wellness.

Think that spirituality is all about religion? Or is “fluffy” stuff that has no place at work? Well, the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University established a Centre for Spirituality and the Workplace in 2004. They facilitate the exploration of people using their work to find meaning in life and how we can nurture empathy and compassion in the workplace. They sponsored a “Spirit at Work” video contest. Watch this winning submission and expand your view of how spirit and work come together.

Working at a University provides a strong sense of purpose for many, where meaning, contribution, and service to others form the foundation of Dalhousie as a place to work. Dal employees find fulfillment, purpose and belonging in many ways, including volunteering their time and energy, raising money for charity, practicing yoga or meditation, and living by a strong sense of positive personal values.

Visit the Healthy Dalhousie website any time for more information on this topic and on the Healthy Workplace Award (deadline: September 30, 2014). Keep current by following the Healthy Dalhousie blog or reach out for assistance by emailing HealthyDal@Dal.ca.
