Magnetic North Festival at the Dalhousie Arts Centre

Posted by Communications and Marketing on June 20, 2014 in Community Highlights

Magnetic North, Canada's only national theatre festival, takes place in Halifax this year from June 19-29. The festival showcases the best Canadian theatre from across the country, bringing Canadian stories to life on stage in the community and creating a shared cultural experience that can transform lives. For this year’s event, the festival has partnered with Halifax’s Eastern Front Theatre and Dalhousie is one of the host venues.

In addition to serving as rehearsal space throughout the festival, the Dalhousie Art Centre will host performances of The Virtual Stage’s Broken Sex Doll in the Dunn Theatre. The play is a sexy, sci-fi musical comedy about a futuristic society where everyone is addicted to super hi-tech porn. Think Blade Runner meets The Six Million Dollar Man meets Glee meets Flesh Gordon. Broken Sex Doll examines today’s rapid technological advancement and the decline of social morality, and imagines what the future might hold if these trends were to continue for over a century. Full of risqué language, laughs, heightened sexuality and an unexpected love story, Broken Sex Doll is perfectly suited to tempt those looking for a bold theatre experience.

Broken Sex Doll runs from June 20-24. For more information about the play, or the Magnetic North Festival, visit the festival's website.
