POSITION: Part-Time Academic to teach one half credit .05 in fall 2014.         

PAY RATE: Per the CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT                                                                                                                     The Contemporary Studies Programme invites applications from qualified individuals to teach the following course:

CTMP 2203.03 Bio-politics: human nature in contemporary thought.  To what extent do biology and culture determine what it is to be human? Drawing on theorists ranging from Foucault to Steven Pinker, this course will examine the recent political, moral and existential issues raised by attempts to answer that question.  Topics will include: evolutionary psychology, genetic screening, race, bio-engineering, and the spectre of determinism.

The course is scheduled for Mondays, 15:35 to 17:25 and Wednesdays, 16:35 to 17:25 during the 2014 Fall term.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 3 hours of classes per week, evaluating assignments, attending staff meetings, and holding office hours.  If eligible, the candidate may be required to supervise a teaching assistant.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should possess, as a minimum requirement, a Master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies or a relevant discipline or field of research.  Some prior university-level teaching is required.
