Junk Email Filtering Bug in Outlook 2010 and 2013

Posted by Information Technology Services on May 15, 2014 in General Announcements

There is a known bug in Microsoft Outlook 2010 and 2013 that affects how email is filtered and tagged as junk email. (Microsoft TechNet Blog article)

What does this mean to you?
· Filtering rules on the hosted Exchange environment (O365) are sometimes being ignored.
· This means that some mail intended for @Dal.ca recipients end up being tagged as ‘junk mail’.
·  Voicemail to Email (V2E), in some cases, is also being tagged as ‘junk mail’.

What we are doing?
· Microsoft has provided ‘hotfixes’ for the bug, and they are now available to you on the Software Downloads page  (See "Microsoft Office for Windows")
o   Outlook 2013 Hotfix 2878323 (32-bit)
o   Outlook 2010 Hotfix 2863918 (32-bit)
o   Microsoft Knowledge center for 64-bit

What can you do?
·  Regularly check your junk folder for email that may have been filtered incorrectly.
·  To correct the problem, or to ensure you won’t experience this in the future, it is recommended that you install the hotfix.
