Hourly appointment: 100 Hours Maximum    

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts

PAY RATE: As per CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT:    Working closely with the student stage management team and with Fountain School of Performing Arts faculty and staff during rehearsals and the run of the Fountain School of Performing Arts main stage productions (supervising, checking, and maintaining proper professional CAEA standards and practices, as well as marking student work).  The position reports to the Director of the School.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: BA in Theatre, Drama or equivalent, with professional accreditation in the area of expertise.

THEA 2360: Popular Cinema
Winter Term (January 2015 – April 2015)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts        

PAY RATE: As per CUPE Collective Agreement                        
WORK ASSIGNMENT:    This Part-Time Academic will take responsibility for all the teaching and some grading (there will be TA support, enrolment allowing) of Popular Cinema (THEA 2360). This position reports to the Director of the School.
 
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Applicants should have an M.A. in Film Studies, Media Studies, or a related discipline. Previous experience of teaching in film studies or related subjects at a university is an asset, as are experience teaching large classes, working with Teaching Assistants, and evidence of strong teaching effectiveness. Note that the course has generally addressed popular cinemas from Hong Kong, China, the US and India, but the emphasis of the course in 2015 does not have to follow the same material. Your cover letter should include a paragraph indicating roughly what topics you would like to teach in the course.

POSITION: Part-Time Academic – Theatre 2406.06 Y (Sabbatical Replacement)
The Aesthetics of Contemporary Dress
WINTER TERM (January – April 2015)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts (City Centre Atlantic)

PAY RATE: As per CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will take responsibility for the teaching and grading of one section of The Aesthetics of Contemporary Dress (Theatre 2406.06) for the Winter (Y) Term of 2015, replacing the Fall Term instructor who will be on sabbatical. Duties will include the preparation of lectures, course materials and assignments and the evaluation of students’ work. The position reports to the Director of the School.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: MA or minimum of BA in Costume Studies or related field. Extensive experience as a pattern designer/cutter of contemporary clothing is essential, as is firsthand knowledge of contemporary fashion theory. Experience of teaching at the university level, with documented evidence of teaching ability, is an asset.

POSITION:    Part-Time Academic - Movement for Actors THEA 4840.06 X/Y
Full Year (September 2014 - April 2015)
Hourly Appointment (36 hours)
 
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts

PAY RATE: As per CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will teach a module on movement for actors as a part of 4840X/Y.06 (Advanced Performance Techniques), as well as prepare and grade all assignments in this module.  This course is an integral part of the Acting Program and comes at the end of a three-year cycle.  
 
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: BA or BFA, plus specialization in teaching creative and period movement to actors in a classical actor training program.  Evidence of strong teaching effectiveness is essential, as is professional performance experience. Familiarity with the Dalhousie University Acting Programme is considered an asset.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will take responsibility for the teaching and grading of The Director in the Theatre (THEA 3200), including the preparation of assignments, the evaluation of students’ work, and possibly the supervision of a Directors’ Showcase. This position reports to the Director of the School.
 
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Minimum of an MA, MFA, or equivalent in Theatre, Drama, or related discipline, plus professional experience as a director. Previous experience of teaching directing at a university is an asset, as is evidence of strong teaching effectiveness.
