GRANT PAID JOB OPPORTUNITY

Position Title: RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Start date: March 17th, 2014 (1 month probation)
End date:     December 31st, 2014
Location:     Dalhousie University
Remuneration:    $21.50 per hour
Workload:    10 hours per week (negotiable)

The 3C&Q project (Collaboration, Continuity, Comprehensiveness and Quality) is currently at the stage of compiling an inventory of remuneration and governance models of interdisciplinary primary health care (PHC) teams in Canada. A research assistant (RA) will be added to the team to assist in the gathering and analysis of qualitative data. Qualitative data consist of literature, online and printed documents, and qualitative interviews. Data pertains to how Canadian interdisciplinary PHC teams are financed, how team members are paid, and what the governance structure is within teams.

Responsibilities

The RA is expected to familiarize themselves with the website of project prior to starting the position. As a part of the position, the RA will have the following responsibilities:

•    synthesis of literature and documents;
•    qualitative interviewing;
•    preparation of qualitative interview data for analysis;
•    assistance with analysis of qualitative interview data;
•    assistance with the analysis of questionnaire data;
•    assistance in the development of further research tools;
•    participation in a roundtable data collection event;
•    assistance with the analysis of qualitative roundtable data;
•    preparation of interim reports, reports and other communications;
•    preparation of funding applications;
•    preparation of scholarly manuscripts;
•    other research related tasks.

The RA will be working with a research team and is expected to engage with the team in a collaborative and professional manner. Flexibility in terms of task assignment and workload distribution is required.



Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a graduate level degree, or be in the final stages of completing a graduate level degree, which included training in qualitative data collection and analysis. Preference will be given to those with a demonstrated health related research focus, but other research backgrounds will also be considered.

The RA will have experience with using NVivo, Opinio, Excel and Word. Alternatively the candidate will have a demonstrated ability and willingness to proficiently acquire the software skills on their own time. The RA will have flexibility in terms of task assignment, and will have an understanding that research related workloads vary across weeks. The RA must be willing to work to deadlines, with the expectations that at time, this might mean working outside of standard work hours.

The ideal candidate will commit to the project and project outcomes. The first month of the position is probationary. After the first month, the terms can be renegotiated in terms of the number of hours this position requires, and the task focus.
