Probationary Tenure-Track Appointment at the Rank of Assistant Professor
Dalhousie University School of Nursing is undergoing an exciting and transformative period in its development and is seeking to make a full-time probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective August 1, 2014. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Situated within the Faculty of Health Professions, the School of Nursing offers programs leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; a Master of Nursing in a variety of specialties including nurse practitioner; and a PhD (Nursing) focusing on the impact of nursing practices on health outcomes for individuals, families, communities and/or populations.
At the time of appointment, successful candidates will have completed a research-based doctoral degree in a health-related discipline, have a record of external funding and research publications, and have demonstrated a commitment to developing excellence in their research, teaching and practice. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a rigorous externally funded research program.
The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will include teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, maintaining a vibrant program of research and publication, and contributing to academic/collegial life of the school and University and to the broader community. The School of Nursing is interested in advancing the scholarship of research, teaching and practice. Candidates should have expertise in mixed methods research and/or knowledge translation. A background in some combination of diversity in health care, information technology, interprofessional/interdisciplinary education, and innovative teaching and technology, including distributive and context-based learning and/or clinical simulation, would be assets. Of particular interest are candidates with expertise in clinical nursing practice, health system leadership, health policy/ health determinants, rural nursing, or gerontological nursing.
Eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia is a requirement for applicants with a nursing background. Applicants with a nursing-related, health and/or social science background will also be considered, depending on combination of experience and fit with the strategic research direction of the School.
A complete application is comprised of (1) a covering letter outlining your experience, major contributions to research, teaching and practice, and the contribution you envisage making to the School, the discipline and profession; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) reprints of at least two published papers representative of your developing program of research, and (4) at least three confidential letters of reference sent under separate cover to the Director, including one from your most recent employer.
