Healthy Active Living
February 19, 12:15-1:15 p.m.
Room B400, Killam Library
Anyone can benefit from regular physical activity. Research shows that moderate amounts of physical activity on most days of the week can improve your health and quality of life. This seminar will teach participants about the benefits of being active as well as the risks of inactivity. They also learn about the components of fitness and activities for each, and the six stages of behaviour change toward a healthier lifestyle.

Is Sitting Killing You?
February 24, 12-1:30 p.m.
Room B400, Killam Library
We all know that exercise is important, but recent evidence suggests that sitting too much (especially sitting in front of the TV or computer) is linked with increased risk of death and disease, even if you are physically active.  This talk will examine the relationship between sedentary behaviour and health, and offer ways that you can reduce the health impact of prolonged sitting. Travis Saunders is a Certified Exercise Physiologist, and has a PhD in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa.  He is currently a Heart and Stroke Foundation Post Doctoral Fellow at Dalhousie University, working under Dr Chris Blanchard.

AGRICULTURAL CAMPUS

Move More Challenge

The tradition of the Olympic torch relay began for the 1936 Games. In the decades since, the relay’s route has traveled near and far, high and low, transporting the Olympic flame from Athens to the upcoming competition’s host city.

In the spirit of the Olympics our Move More Challenge to you is to work with colleagues to walk the distance of our own “Torch Relay” 6500km.   It’s ”All for one and one for all!” Virtually walking together, your kilometers will count towards our common DAL AC Move More goal.

Please register with Ashley Simms at Ashley.Simms@Dal.ca. If the campus meets the 6500km goal during the month of February, all registered participants will receive a free lunch!

Fitness Classes:

Tuesday, February 11th – Zumba Party at 5:15PM
Thursday, February 19th  – Burn Strength Circuit 5:15PM
Friday, February 28th  - Burn Cardio Rush 12:00 Noon

Classes take place at the Langille Athletic Centre.
