POSITION:  Sessional Lecturer- DISM 3010- Introduction to Occupation & Disability Management,
Summer session I (May 1- June 30, 2014)
 
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:  Certificate in Disability Management Program,
School Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Health Professions
 
PAY RATE: In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement
 
 
WORK ASSIGNMENT: The sessional lecturer will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administration for DISM 3010, Introduction to Occupation and Disability Management, including preparation of the course syllabus, module content, evaluation of students, and, if applicable, supervision of teaching assistants. This course is delivered completely using distance learning education, and is a condensed 3 credit course over six weeks.  
 
This course provides an introduction to disability management and asks the following questions in seeking to understand the meaning and importance of occupation to individuals:  what is occupation? what is the meaning of occupation? what is the meaning of work injury and loss of occupation?  The class also addresses some of the professional and ethical issues, philosophy, roles, and conceptual framework for disability management programs
 
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Graduate degree in a health-related field required or in progress, and/or extensive clinical experience in disability management.  Previous teaching and/or supervisory experience in adult education and with mature students is desirable.  Competence in the interactive use of e-mail and web-based learning with learners at a distance is an asset.

In this course, return to work planning and communication processes are explored. Students will be able to apply strategies that contribute to the success of the disability management process, as well as discuss the barriers that are encountered in this process

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The sessional lecturer will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administration for DISM 4040, Strategies for Alternative Work and Prevention, including preparation of the course syllabus, module content, evaluation of students, and, if applicable, supervision of teaching assistants. This course is delivered completely using distance learning education, and is a condensed 3 credit course over six weeks.  
 
In this course, students will learn disability management strategies that will assist workers when return to their former occupation is not possible. This will include issues such as job loss, vocational rehabilitation, and employment for persons with disabilities. The importance of meaningful occupation, case closure, and prevention strategies within systems, structures and organization will also be addressed.
 
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Graduate degree in a health-related field required or in progress, and/or extensive clinical experience in disability management.  Previous teaching and/or supervisory experience in adult education and with mature students is desirable.  Competence in the interactive use of e-mail and web-based learning with learners at a distance is an asset.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The sessional lecturer will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administration for DISM 4050, Psychosocial Issues in Disability Management, including preparation of the course syllabus, module content, evaluation of students, and, if applicable, supervision of teaching assistants. This course is delivered completely using distance learning education, and is a condensed 3 credit course over six weeks.  
 
This course explores the complex psychosocial issues that impact a worker involved in the disability management process, such as:  family, community and unemployed persons, psychosocial dynamics, employer/employee relationships, societal trends, and medical authorization.
 
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Graduate degree in a health-related field required or in progress, and/or extensive clinical experience in disability management.  Previous teaching and/or supervisory experience in adult education and with mature students is desirable.  Competence in the interactive use of e-mail and web-based learning with learners at a distance is an asset.
