SENIOR INSTRUCTOR POSITION (1.0 FTE SENIOR INSTRUCTOR POSITION)
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE
 
The Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science at Dalhousie University invites applications for a continuing Senior Instructor position commencing July 1, 2014.
 
The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be, but not limited to, the organization and coordination of the laboratory sections associated with two half-credit Physics courses and to prepare demonstrations for use in physics lectures. The successful candidate will work hand in hand with the instructor for the alternate first year lab.
 
Duties include (but are not limited to) designing and preparing laboratory experiments, including writing instruction manuals, supervising the TAs, lab demonstrators and markers, maintaining daily schedules for the Resource Centre; collating lab marks and arranging in-term tests, help sessions and make-up labs; maintenance of lab and Resource Centre equipment; and assisting faculty with preparation, set up of class demonstrations, and teaching duties.
 
Additional responsibilities include managing the Planetarium and presenting public shows and pursuing, organizing and promoting outreach efforts with schools and the public. Other duties as required.
 
Applicants should have an advanced degree in Physics and proven experience teaching in a university setting. Good computer skills are necessary. The candidate is expected to be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as data entry and file maintenance.
