POSITION: Teaching Assistant (2 Positions) PHYT 6202 Scientific Inquiry
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: School of Physiotherapy
PAY RATE: $2365 (CUPE – 110 hours)
WORK ASSIGNMENT: The successful candidate(s) will act as research advisors to student groups in the entry-to-practice MSc program in the School of Physiotherapy through the duration of Scientific Inquiry (PHYT 6202). Research advisors responsibilities are detailed in the Major Projects Handbook.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Providing an environment that is conducive to project development and which encourages development of the students’ skills.
2. Working with students in groups to develop a realistic timeline for completion of the various phases of the project.
3. Ensuring that, when on leave or absent for an extended period of time, the students are adequately supervised.
4. Discussing delays in their students’ progress with the Major Project Committee.
5. Presenting an outline of their research interests to facilitate the students’ choice of a research topic. The presentation will take place in the Term 2 of the first year of the program.
6. Meeting with their research students early in the term to guide students in their choice of a research topic and to define expectations for the work to be completed over remainder of term and during the summer.
7. Being available to review feedback, respond to questions, and/or guide the students throughout the second year of the program; this should not require frequent contact as the student is to work independently. Advisors are not expected to be available to the students without pre-setting of meeting / contact times.
8. Providing timely and explicit feedback and evaluation of written work submitted by the research student group.
9. Participating in the evaluation process of the Final Research Proposals and the School of Physiotherapy’s Annual Student Research Day. The Major Project Committee will provide advisors with papers and all appropriate rubrics and evaluation guidelines.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Candidates will have completed a research (thesis-based) Masters Degree in a discipline related to Physiotherapy, including (but not limited to) Kinesiology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Psychology.
