(A) POSITION: Instructor(s) (Laboratory Demonstrator)
WORK ASSIGNMENT: PHYT 5103 Movement and Exercise Science (January – April 2014)
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory demonstrator/instructor will assist the course professor by teaching physical assessment, documentation, and treatment practical skills and techniques in the laboratory component of this module for Year I MSc PT students. The laboratory instructor will also act as an examiner in final practical exams and evaluate the students' performance throughout the course and in these exams. Some additional hours may be required for preparation time and limited meeting time with the professor.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Candidates must be licensed Physiotherapists. A Master’s degree with a research focus in human movement science is preferred along with strong clinical expertise in the musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
(B) POSITION: Instructor(s) (Laboratory Demonstrator)
WORK ASSIGNMENT: PHYT 5105 Musculoskeletal (Module V of the MSc PT program) (January 6, 2014 – April 30, 2014).
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory demonstrator/instructor will assist the course professor by teaching lab material to Year I MSc PT students in small group sessions. A lab manual will be available that covers the hands-on practical clinical skills of the various physical assessments as well as the various treatment approaches from acute care to discharge.
Numerous lab instructors will be required to cover the multiple lab and tutorial sessions. The level of lab instructor involvement would be varied. For example, it could be 1 or 2 labs per module or 1 to 2 lab sessions per week. This would depend on the instructor’s level of skill, availability and the type of expertise required (inpatient orthopaedics, manual therapy skills). Laboratory instructors will also be asked to act as an examiner in mid-term and final practical exams (must be available all day Wednesday, April 16).
Further detail regarding the layout of the module, specific hours and content of the various laboratory sessions will be forwarded to interested individuals upon receipt of the application form.

(C) POSITION: Instructor(s) (Laboratory Demonstrator)
WORK ASSIGNMENT: PHYT 6108 – Integrated Practice (February 17, 2014 – May 30, 2014).
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory instructor(s) will assist the module leader by teaching practical skills and techniques in the laboratory/tutorial components of this 2nd year MScPT module. The level of lab instructor involvement will vary. For example, lab instructors may be involved in 1 or 2 labs per module or 1 to 2 lab sessions per week. This will depend on the instructor’s level of skill and the type of expertise required. The instructor may also act as an examiner in the mid-term and final practical exams and evaluate the students’ performance throughout the course and in these exams.

(D) POSITION: Instructor
WORK ASSIGNMENT: An Instructor is required to assist in the teaching of the Musculoskeletal components of PHYT 5105 (Musculoskeletal PT Practice) and PHYT 6108 (Integrated Practice) from January 06, 2014 to May 30, 2014.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The modules are delivered through collaborative team teaching using didactic, self-directed, small group case-oriented problems, and lab sessions. The MSK components in the above modules provide students with an understanding of the core knowledge of the science and tools of orthopedic physiotherapy, including MSK tissue science issues, clinical reasoning, population health, and the development of musculoskeletal examination (subjective, objective), treatment and communication skills.
Throughout the modules, students practice prospective clinical reasoning using a two stage hypothetico-deductive method where the initial subjective patient history and physiotherapy observation skills are applied to develop primary and secondary differential diagnoses and the patient examination is applied to confirm or disprove each diagnosis and arrive at a primary physiotherapy diagnosis. Students learn to direct treatment at the specific primary physiotherapy diagnosis, assess patient progress regularly using outcome measures recognized as best practice, document relevant subjective/objective information obtained from the patient using effective communication skills and convey appropriate information to clients, peers, and insurers.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Preferred candidate will have an advanced Master’s degree and/or clinical specialization in orthopaedics, and be licensed to practice physiotherapy. Applicants must have a strong grasp of the subject matter, strong communication skills and have experience teaching graduate students.
