Reminder: Tree Decorating for Mental Health

Posted by Communications and Marketing on November 19, 2013 in General Announcements

Come one, come all today for music, treats, and festive fun, as we decorate a Dalhousie tree in black and gold for the Mental Health Foundation.

Mental health issues affect one in five of us and the more we talk about them, the more we, as a community, can work together to remove the stigma. Between noon and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, stop by the Lord Dalhousie Room and hang an "ornament of hope" on the Dalhousie tree in support of those suffering from mental illness. Our black and gold decor is the foundation of our tree's theme: stars shining through the darkness. We'll have lots of ornaments to choose from and we'll also add your faculty, department or unit to our "Nice" list, which will be included as a decoration on the tree.

After it's trimmed, our tree will be on auction at the Compass Group Canada's Festival of Trees in support of the Mental Health Foundation. Funds raised at the festival will support programs and services that inspire hope, encourage growth, and transform the lives of Nova Scotians living with mental illness. That's a pretty wonderful holiday gift.

How to donate
The more our tree appeals to potential buyers at the auction, the higher the bid and the more funds we'll raise for this great cause. While we're confident our black and gold tree will appeal to buyers on its own, gift cards in the tree will be an added incentive. Options for those who wish to donate:
1. We'll have a donation box for monetary contributions, which will be used to buy gift cards that will accompany the tree.
2. Bring a gift card ($50+ value) on behalf of your faculty/department/unit. We'll have gold envelopes and "From:" tags to accept your donation gift cards.

Date: Tuesday, November 19
Time: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Lord Dalhousie Room, Hicks Bldg.
Cost: Free. Donations welcome.
