Healthy Workplace Month

Posted by Human Resources on October 22, 2013 in Community Highlights

October is Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month, and Dalhousie is marking the occasion with a number of events and opportunities for staff and faculty to consider what it means to be healthy at work.

“It’s not just about physical health, although that’s incredibly important,” says Janice MacInnis, Dal’s coordinator of organizational health. “It’s about creating an environment where individuals are supported in their mental, emotional and spiritual health as well.”

On the Healthy Dalhousie website, as well as the Healthy Dal blog, faculty and staff can find a wide variety of resources related to individual and organizational health: from the Employee and Family Assistance Program, to Dal’s Weight Watchers groups, to various university policies and programs related to the health and wellness of Dal employees.

There are also a number of Healthy Workplace events scheduled for next week. Make time to attend and consider how you and your team can be more healthy at work at Dal:

Creating a Respectful and Inclusive Community (Agricultural Campus session)

We all have a shared responsibility to establish and maintain a climate of respect in the workplace. This workshop, facilitated by Gaye Wishart and Lisa Delong, is intended to raise awareness about the importance of a welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment for all. It also offers a forum for generating ideas for achieving inclusiveness, understanding and respect while acknowledging, valuing and accommodating differences.
