Law Professor Michael Deturbide, who is also Associate Dean, Academic of the Schulich School of Law, is the co-recipient of this year's Water Owen Book Prize, presented by the Foundation for Legal Research.The Walter Owen Book Prize is designed to recognize excellent legal writing and to reward outstanding new contributions to Canadian legal literature that enhance the quality of legal research in this country. Prof. Deturbide was recognized alongside his co-author Teresa Scassa of the University of Ottawa for Electronic Commerce and Internet Law in Canada, first published in 2004 and updated with a second edition — the version receiving the prize — which, according to the Foundation, is "essentially a new work that brings the reader up to date on the many ramifications brought about by the most recent developments in technology and communications." "The book greatly contributes to the quality of legal research in Canada," said the selection committee's chair, John N. Davis. "The authors bring unique insight into a phenomenon that is transforming not only the way we practise law, but also the way we conduct business." The award was presented in August at the Canadian Barristers Association Legal Conference.
