Benefit Coverage for Dependents between 21‑25

Posted by Pensions & Employee Benefits on August 2, 2013 in Human Resources

Under Dalhousie's Major Medical (MMI), Dental, Optional Group Term Life and Voluntary Personal Accident (VPA) plans, dependent children between the ages of 21 and 25 may only be covered under your family plan if they are full-time students.

Student dependent coverage ends each August 31st, and dependents must be re-registered for coverage at the beginning of each school year (September) until age 25. This includes any dependent who will turn 21 though out the school year. (September to August 31st).  It is important that you complete a Student Dependent Registration Form and submit it to Employee Benefits by August 31, 2013.  If no form is received the dependent will be removed from your MMI and or Dental coverage effective August 31, 2013 or in the case of those dependents who turn 21 throughout the school year at the end of the month they turn 21.

The Student Dependent Registration form can be printed from our website http://www.dal.ca/dept/hr/employee-resources/hr-services.html type in “student registration” and the form will be there.  This form must be sent to Employee Benefits, Henry Hicks Building, Room 21 or fax to 494-2888.  If you have questions please call 494-1122 or e-mail benefits@dal.ca.

For those members with disabled children coverage will continue upon completion of the Special Dependent Questionnaire form.  If you require this form please contact Pensions & Employee Benefits at 494-1122.
