Job Posting: Director, Evidence‑Based Programs (Continuing Medical Education)

The Office of Continuing Medical Education provides accredited and non-accredited continuing professional education (CME) for family physicians and specialists, with a mission to “promote excellence in healthcare through facilitation of life-long learning, collaboration and research”, and has recently assumed responsibility for the Faculty of Medicine’s faculty development program.

We are currently seeking to fill the position of Director, Evidence-Based Programs. This is a .6 FTE three - year, limited term position with an academic appointment in the Division of Medical Education, and applications are invited from qualified clinician-educators in the Faculty of Medicine.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Continuing Medical Education, the Director, Evidence-Based Programs provides leadership for the development and delivery of a variety of programs accredited for family physicians and specialist learners.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of educational programs for family physicians and other health care professionals. This includes webinars, workshops, academic detailing, and lectures.
• Critically appraise medical literature to promote evidence-based continuing education
• Represent the Office of CME at meetings involving faculty initiatives and external partners e.g. Nova Scotia Department of Health And Wellness, Diabetes Care Program of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Prescription Monitoring Program
• Conduct research to improve the quality of CME and present findings at conferences and in publications

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a Family Physician in clinical practice or with at least 5 years practice experience, or a PhD in a field related to medical education. S/he must have demonstrated interest or experience in designing educational programs, educational research and critical appraisal/evidence-based practice, and have a robust knowledge of clinical epidemiology. An ability to work with a variety of health care professionals is required, as are strong leadership skills and excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Excellent organizational, interpersonal and computer (Microsoft Office programs) skills are essential. Candidates must be eligible for appointment as a faculty member in the Division of Medical Education.
