The province is launching a wide-ranging consultation on rules for fish farms, often a source of controversy in coastal communities.
Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau announced Wednesday that Dalhousie University law professors William Lahey and Meinhard Doelle will lead the work on the new regulations.
The minister said he hopes they will be ready by the end of 2014.
“Strong and progressive aquaculture regulations — world-class regulations — will help the industry grow in a way that balanced economic development and environmental protection,” Belliveau said.
