INSTRUCTOR

DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE

The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Dalhousie University invites applications for an Instructor position. This is a one-year, limited-term position and is available starting July 1, 2013. Job candidates should have a PhD in Psychology and have teaching experience at the undergraduate level, particularly in the coordination and development of psychology lab demonstrations and report writing. Experience with first year students and familiarity with team-teaching are highly recommended, as is knowledge of Web-based course management.

The instructor, under the general direction of the department’s Undergraduate Program Coordinator, will be responsible for organization and administration of the team-taught courses, Psychology 1011 and Psychology 1012. These fall and winter courses have enrollments of approximately one thousand students. The instructor will also develop and oversee the lab component of the course in conjunction with teaching PSYO/NESC 3010. Students in the latter class teach the lab component of PSYO1011/1012. Specific responsibilities include responding to e-mail messages, student advising, creating and updating the blended learning component of PSYO1011/1012 websites on OWL (Blearn), coordinating make up tests and evaluations and recruiting appropriate students for PSYO/NESC 3010. The instructor will also teach two other half credit courses (6 credit hours), preferably in the spring or summer offerings of Introductory Psychology and Neuroscience.

The instructor is expected to maintain a professional interest in issues related to the teaching and technical aspects associated with delivering an introductory psychology course. Because of heavy course-related demands during the fall and winter terms, time for these activities will be available during the summer months.

The instructor is also expected to participate in administrative work in the Department, and will serve on appropriate Departmental, Faculty and University Committees. Further information about our department and Dalhousie University can be found at the following web sites: www.psychology.dal.ca, www.dal.ca.

To apply for the position, send a letter of intent, a curriculum vitae, a summary of previous teaching, and program administration experience, a statement of teaching and research interests, and three letters of reference, under separate cover, to Dr. Patricia McMullen, Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada B3H 4R2 by May 3, 2013.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Dalhousie University is an Employment Equity/Affirmative Action employer. The University encourages applications from qualified Aboriginal people, persons with a disability, racially visible persons, and women.
