Day one – An introduction

“Saludos” and warm greetings from beautiful Colombia! For the next 10 days, I will be travelling throughout the country with representatives from American, Canadian, and European institutions – all members of the Council of International Schools. During my time in Colombia I’ll be visiting six cities, meeting with prospective students, their parents, school counsellors and answering any questions they have about Dalhousie as an option for post-secondary study.

Perhaps you’re wondering why I’m travelling abroad for Dal. My goal is to help students fall in love with Dalhousie, by showing them everything we have to offer. International students who choose to study at Dalhousie benefit in so many ways: life-long friendships, a world-class education leading to amazing work opportunities, expanding their worldview, to name a few.

On the flip side, Dalhousie as an institution and a community benefits tremendously from having international students on our campuses. Not only do foreign students contribute to the Canadian economy, they offer new perspectives in classroom discussions and help create global citizens by sharing their culture and traditions with students (and faculty and staff!) who aren’t from the same area. When international students return to their country of origin and share Canadian culture and traditions with friends and family at home, they become an ambassador for both Dalhousie and Canada.
