Joint Labour Relations Update: NSGEU Local 92, Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus

Posted by NSGEU and Dalhousie University on April 2, 2013 in Human Resources

The Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU) and Dalhousie University met on March 19 to discuss the potential to have employees at the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, who are members of NSGEU Local 92 and covered by the Civil Service Master Agreement, merge into the existing bargaining units at Dalhousie as follows:

• NSGEU Local 77 - Administrative and Technical Support (clerical, secretarial, library support, technical positions)
• NSGEU Local 99 - Facilities and Operational Support - (custodial, trades, security, grounds and trucking positions)

The university and the union have agreed to meet in the spring and summer months to find a way to resolve the issues outlined in the union’s Labour Board application, with the objective, wherever agreeable, of protecting existing union rights and benefits of Local 92 members in merging the bargaining units. Both parties have agreed to cancel the dates in April and May that were originally scheduled with the Labour Board to hear the union's application.

The university and the union now plan to begin discussions the week of April 15, and will use two of the three dates that were previously scheduled with the Labour Board (May 1 and 2).

If no agreement is reached, the parties may bring the issue back before the Labour Board. In the event that the parties are unable to reach a resolution, they will request that the Labour Board set a date aside to be available after mid-September 2013.
