In January, it was announced that Dalhousie will be adopting Microsoft's Office 365 platform to provide email and calendar services to the university.
This will offer students, faculty and staff more storage (25GB), a new Dal-wide calendar system, enhanced mobile support, real-time document collaboration and more. Your dal.ca email address will not change, and your folders will be migrated, but the system to support your account will be significantly more robust.
The project will be ramping up in the weeks and months ahead. Here's a look at where things stand at the moment:
- The Office 365 project team has been assembled.
- We have access to a trial environment and are beginning to build Dal's instance of Office 365.
- The rollout plan is being finalized. Our first priority will be to transition Dal's email accounts to Office 365, with the goal of having all Dal accounts on the platform by fall. We will be starting with employees in ITS later this Spring, who will learn the system first, before we expand to other faculty and staff and, finally, students.
- We've engaged with a consultant to help assist in migrating calendar tools to the Office 365's calendar offering.
Stay tuned to Today@Dal in the weeks ahead as we continue to update on the project's process and share what you need to know to get ready for the next generation of dal.ca email and calendar tools.
