Please be aware that the LeMarchant Street Mixed Use Building construction site is now using a concrete formwork system commonly referred to as “flying forms”. This involves using the tower crane to lift large sections of formwork from the underside of each completed slab section and then placing the sections on top of the slab to form the new, upper slab. This method will be used over the next few months until the concrete frame is complete. Flying forms have been used on previous Dalhousie projects, such as the Life Sciences Research Institute (LSRI) and Ocean Sciences Building.
When this work is taking place, it is important that both pedestrians and vehicles use caution on the portion of LeMarchant Street adjacent to the site. Please follow all posted signs. Traffic control personnel will be on site when this work is taking place over LeMarchant Street, to ensure that vehicles and pedestrians do not travel under these forms during the “flying” process. It will also be necessary to intermittently stop traffic on LeMarchant Street between South and University, while this work is being done. Each closure is expected to last less than 5 minutes. We apologize for these temporary disruptions in vehicular traffic flow.
