QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
Educational background in social work with extensive experience in social work (or related fields) is required. The successful incumbent is required to have solid knowledge of a variety of critical and social work skills and the ability to impart these skills to students. A Master of Social Work degree, or higher, and previous teaching experience is preferred.
 
JOB SUMMARY:
SLWK 4010: Advanced Social Work Practice, is a Distance Education course running from May to June, with a two week on-campus residency component occurring in May. The part-time academic is responsible for administering the activities during the two week student residency component and completing evaluations once the residency has ended. The part-time academic will provide hands on skill development related to counseling, group work, community development, policy work, etc. The part-time academic will view and offer feedback on videotaped student work; both in the context of teaching with students and for evaluation purposes. The part-time academic must be familiar with the core course objectives of SLWK 4010 (and critical social work) prior to course commencement and is required to carry out student evaluation after completion of the two week residency. This position reports to the Director of the School.

On-campus residency classes are scheduled on Monday, May 6 to Friday, May 17 from 8:30am – 4:30pm.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching SLWK 4033.03 “Field Practicum” Section 08 by Distance Education. The class will be offered in the Summer session, May to April 2013.
 
The part-time academic position is responsible for guiding a series of seminars, liaising with student field placement agencies for a series of meetings, dealing with any issues that arise within the field placement, overseeing the completion of an academic presentation, and conferring of Final Grades. The part-time academic should expect be engaged in employment preceding course delivery for course preparations.
