WORK ASSIGNMENT:  The sessional instructor will co-teach MGMT 1702 - Ecosystem Goods and Services, a required course taken by all first year Bachelor of Management students, during the 2013 winter term, taking over from a core SRES faculty member when her maternity leave begins (approximately mid-February).  The course is offered to approximately 200 students, from January 7 to April 8, 2013. The course is delivered through weekly 80-minute lectures (scheduled Thursday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:00) and via tutorials scheduled throughout the week. Lectures will be shared by the co-instructors while tutorials are led by up to ten teaching assistants (TA) whose efforts are coordinated by a head TA but substantively overseen by the co-instructors.
 
The Calendar entry is as follows:
“MGMT1702 identifies and explores the ecosystem goods and services on which our societies and economies depend, and provides fundamental understanding about the environmental basis of those goods and services. The course will cover the nature and function of: matter, energy, ecosystems, evolution, primary production, natural resources, biodiversity, ecological footprints, and feedback loops. Issues such as poverty, urbanization, and climate change will be studied as cases of global management challenges with a basis in environmental systems. The course also develops proficiency in ethical researching and writing, constructive criticism, critical reading and synthesis essential for success in Dalhousie degrees and transferrable to other settings.”
 
The instructor will follow closely the syllabus laid out for past offerings of the course, and will coordinate closely with the core SRES faculty member involved before and after her leave begins.
 
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:  PhD and/or Masters with equivalent experience in related discipline. Strong understanding of -- and experience with -- the ecosystem goods and services framework, ideally through applied or research work. Prior experience in undergraduate teaching is a strong asset.
