Barry Lesser received an honourary degree from the Shandong University of Finance and Economics (SDUFE), with which Dalhousie Economics has a joint program that brings students to Dalhousie for their third and fourth year of study and awards them a Dalhousie degree. SDUFE is in the city of Jinan, which is the capital of Shandong Province in China. The honorary professorship was "in recognition of outstanding service to the internationalization of Shandong University of Finance and Economics"
