Employee profile: Print Centre's Lisa Matthews on discovering Dalhousie

Posted by Human Resources on October 23, 2012 in Community Highlights

Lisa Matthews is likely a familiar face to many at Dalhousie. In her role as manager of the Print Centre, she meets a lot of faculty, staff and students.

She joined the university just over three years ago, coming from a magazine publishing background. Lisa worked at Chatelaine and other Rogers’ publications for more than a decade.

“When I moved to Halifax, I was interested in applying for this position as it gave me an opportunity to contribute to a different side of the publishing industry, as part of a large organization in the education sector,” says Lisa.

In her role, Lisa oversees the Print Centre ensuring that it provides support to key strategic activities of the university — teaching and learning, research, recruitment and alumni engagement. She is proud of the work her team does and believes it makes an important contribution every day to the growth and success of Dalhousie.

“I enjoy checking out what’s happening on campus over the noon hour, and so far I’ve participated in yoga classes, viewed the 3D printer at the Killam and visited the Art Gallery,” she adds. “I look forward to taking advantage of the tuition assistance program in the New Year to enrol in a course with the Faculty of Management.”

While at Dal, Lisa has experienced new and exciting opportunities, which have enabled her to develop professionally and personally.

“There are many reasons to be proud of working at Dalhousie, but the recent visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel is a highlight for me. It is thrilling that she deemed it a priority to spend time with scientists at Dalhousie to discuss ocean research while in Canada,” says Lisa.

The Print Centre is an administrative unit of Financial Services, and is located in the lower level of the Life Sciences Building. Lisa and her team can be reached at print.centre@dal.ca.
