Job Posting: Co‑Director, Faculty Development ‑ Specialist Focus

The Office of Continuing Medical Education provides accredited and non-accredited continuing professional education (CME) for family physicians and specialists, with a mission to “promote excellence in healthcare through facilitation of life-long learning, collaboration and research”. CME has recently assumed responsibility for the Faculty of Medicine’s faculty development program which develops and delivers activities to assist faculty members, both in Halifax and at distributed sites, in preparing themselves for a variety of educational roles in the Faculty of Medicine. The faculty development function is led by two Co-Directors to work as a team, whose primary focus is on professional development for family physician and specialist educators, respectively.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Continuing Medical Education, the Co-Director, Faculty Development – Specialist Focus provides leadership for the development and delivery of learning activities to meet the needs of specialist educators across the continuum of the Faculty of Medicine. S/he monitors faculty development program effectiveness through learner assessments and behavioural changes in participants, and participates in collaborative research in medical education. This is a part-time (0.3 FTE) position and applications are invited from qualified clinician-educators in the Faculty of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:
• Works closely with the Co-Director Family Medicine Focus to develop programs that meet the needs of the Faculty of Medicine
• Meets regularly with clinical department specialist physicians and managers of faculty development to determine needs, collaborate on programs and provide CME assistance when needed to those programs.
• Develops sustainable programming for teachers across the Faculty of Medicine
• Makes effective use of technologies available to provide enhanced access for distance learning/ elearning.
• Collaborates with the Faculty of Health Professions and the Faculty of Dentistry where applicable to share limited resources while providing the best programs possible to all health educators.
• Collaborates with clinical department faculty development managers in conducting needs assessments
• Develops and implements evaluation strategies for faculty development sessions and works to address areas of weakness.
• Participates in collaborative medical education research.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a practicing specialist physician with demonstrated interest in medical and interdisciplinary education. Strong leadership skills and excellent communication skills (written and verbal) are required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and computer (Microsoft Office programs) skills are essential. The successful candidate must be eligible for appointment as a faculty member in the Division of Medical Education.
