Blog Highlight: Jules Fauteux, Talentlogix principal consultant, writes about CS and Lean Launch Pad.

A global phenomenon recently hit the Dalhousie campus and the CS Faculty in a really positive way. The Lean Launchpad is now available at Dal and it’s getting great participation from CS students. This past summer, when I first heard about the Program from Ed Leach in the Faculty of Management I was really intrigued. It seems others are interested too because program participation rates are very high. About 40 entrepreneurs – many from the CS faculty -are participating in the program popularized by the well-known author Steve Blank.

The program helps entrepreneurs prepare to start a business and follows some unique and effective ways to teach, learn, and act. I’m learning about the program second hand through participants so I am no expert but here’s what I found most intriguing:

  • The program breaks the traditional mould of applying big business thinking and practices to start ups. For example the business plan is not the focus but instead participants spend time developing and testing hypothesis as they build a “canvas” in their search for the right business model.
