Dr. David Haase, a member of the Department of Medicine at Dalhousie and the Faculty of Medicine since 1984 and currently a full professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, was presented with an award at the kick-off celebration of Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of independence from Britain.

Various awards were given on this occasion to Jamaicans who have served their community in different capacities. He was presented with the award because of his unselfish giving of himself in service to the people of Nova Scotia in his role as director of the V. G. S.T.D. Clinic in Halifax and his passion for educating teens and adults in the Nova Scotia community about the perils of STDs and sharing ways to live healthier and more balanced lives.

Corinne MacDonald of the Department of Industrial Engineering was elected vice-president of the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) for the 2012-13 year. She will become president of the society at the annual conference in Vancouver in June, 2013.
