Media Release ‑ Six Dalhousie University students receive Canada’s largest science, technology, engineering and math scholarship

– Universities announce their 2024 Schulich Leaders, winning $120,000 or $100,000 scholarships for undergraduate study 

Tuesday, August 13, 2024 (HALIFAX, N.S.) –– Six Dalhousie University students have been named recipients of Canada’s most coveted undergraduate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) scholarships - the Schulich Leader Scholarship. Each year, one hundred Schulich Scholarships are awarded to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates enrolling in a STEM program at 20 partner universities across Canada.

Half of the awarded scholarships are valued at $120,000 for engineering scholarships, with the other half valued at $100,000 for science and math scholarships. Every high school in Canada can nominate one graduating student each year to apply for the scholarship. Out of a pool of more than 300,000 potential high school candidates across Canada, 1,500 students were nominated, with a total of 100 scholarships awarded.

Recipients of this prestigious scholarship who will attend Dalhousie University this fall include:

Harrison Basquill is a recipient of the $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Central Kings Rural High School in Cambridge, Nova Scotia, Basquill will be entering the Faculty of Engineering this fall. 

Jami McDowell is a recipient of the $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Pictou Academy in Pictou, Nova Scotia, McDowell will be entering the Faculty of Engineering this fall. 

Seth Morency is a recipient of the $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of La salle Secondary School in Kingston, Ontario, Morency will be entering the Faculty of Engineering this fall. 

Jules Owen-Pole is a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Hugh Sutherland School High School in Carstairs, Alberta, Owen-Pole will be entering the Faculty of Computer Science this fall. 

Katya McBeth is a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Sandy Lake Academy in Bedford, Nova Scotia, McBeth will be entering the Faculty of Science this fall. 

Miriam Epstein is a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Prince Edward Collegiate Institute in Picton, Ontario, Epstein will be entering the Faculty of Science this fall.
