Dalhousie chemist Dr. Mark Stradiotto was announced today as a winner of the Governor General’s Innovation Award.
Dr. Stradiotto’s game-changing research resulted in the development and commercialization of a new family of ligands, a chemical tool that help metals catalyze reactions that combine molecules.
His DalPhos – short for Dalhousie Phosphine – ligands are included in patents for anti-cancer medications, new antibiotics and central nervous system treatments, and have led to impactful advances used in pharmaceutical manufacturing around the world.
Dr. Stradiotto is Dalhousie’s Arthur B. McDonald Research Chair and is one of six awardees announced by the Rideau Hall Foundation, who will formally receive the award in a ceremony in Ottawa on May 18, 2023.
