Tigers Weekend Recap (Nov. 6)

As another weekend wraps up, let’s take a look at what the Tigers got up to. Highlights included the Tigers taking home the women’s, men’s and combined team titles at the Amby Legere Invitational, the men’s basketball team making a comeback against Acadia, the volleyball teams each taking a win against UNB, and the women’s hockey team defeating Mount Alison by one.

Swimming

The tigers showed up to UNB in full force for the Amby Legere Invitational. On day one they finished with 13 first-place finishes, putting them 400 points ahead in team standings. Day two brought 9 more first place finishes, earning the Tigers a clean sweep of the women’s, men’s, and team titles in the meet.

Women’s Basketball

The women played the Acadia Axewomen on Wednesday, and fell 90-64. Simona Matic led the Tigers in scoring 22 points. The rematch on Sunday saw a similar feat as they fell 89-65. Kaitlyn Ferrier scored 17 points for the Tigers.

Men’s Basketball

The men started their fight against the Acadia Axemen Wednesday night with a tight 87-84 loss. Malcolm Christie was named player of the game for his 21 points, which was also matched by Spencer Riar. On Sunday, Christie continued to push the Tigers forward with his 22 points and the Tigers claimed the win 81-65.

Women’s Volleyball

The women tried their hand at back-to-back games against UNB. They dominated the first game on Friday, taking all three sets. Talia Vydykhan was awarded player of the game for her 10 kills. Saturday the roles were reversed as UNB swept the three sets.

Men’s Volleyball

The men also came out of the weekend with a 1-1 split to UNB. The Reds shut them down 3-0 on Friday, but the Tigers bounced back Saturday to take the win 3-1. Michael Donovan led the Tigers to the win putting down 23 kills.

Women’s Hockey

The women took to the ice on Friday, facing the Mount Alison Mounties. Olivia Eustace found the back of the net twice, and they held on to the lead taking the game 4-3. Saturday, Eustace kept up the pressure with another two goals, but it was not enough and the Tigers fell 6-3 to the Saint Mary’s Huskies.

Men’s Hockey

Friday night’s game against the Huskies proved to be a challenge for the men, as they were shut out 5-0. They were back at it Saturday, but couldn’t close the gap against the Axemen resulting in a 6-3 loss despite Nicholas Chenard’s 25 saves.
