Dalhousie jumped 12 places to rank 20th globally for Oceanography in this year's Global Rankings of Academic Subjects (GRAS), increasing Dal’s hold on first place for Oceanography in Canada.
Atmospheric Science at Dal remains tied for second in Canada, with a global ranking of 76-100.
Other Dalhousie subjects that placed in the top 200 globally include Environmental Science & Engineering as well as Political Sciences. Dal tied for 6th place in Canada for Environmental Science & Engineering, and ranked 8th nationally for Political Sciences.
Dalhousie ranked in the top 300 for Earth Sciences, Geography, Ecology, Biological Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Public Health, Dentistry & Oral Sciences, Law, Psychology, and Management.
The university’s score in Agricultural Sciences placed it in a tie for 5th in Canada. Dal ranked 10th nationally for Public Health.

Ranking world universities by subjects
Released annually by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, the rankings include This year more than 1,900 out of 5,000 universities across 104 countries and regions were listed in the rankings.
The 2023 GRAS compares universities around the world in 55 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences.
The results are based on a range of academic indicators and third-party data that measure factors including research output, international academic awards, top academic achievements, research quality, and international collaboration.
