Dalhousie Oceanography ranked best in Canada in global academic subject rankings

Atmospheric Science ties for second place rank among Canadian universities

Oceanography and Atmospheric Science stood out as two of Dalhousie’s top subject areas in this year's Global Rankings of Academic Subjects (GRAS).  

Oceanography ranked first in Canada and 32nd globally. Atmospheric Science tied for second in Canada, with a global ranking of 76-100.  

Other Dalhousie subjects that placed in the top 150 globally are Environmental Science & Engineering, Dentistry & Oral Sciences, and Political Sciences.  

Dalhousie ranked in the top 200 for Public Health, and in the top 300 for Earth Sciences, Geography, Ecology, Biological Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Psychology, and Hospitality & Tourism Management.

Ranking world universities by subjects

Released annually by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, the rankings include more than 1,800 out of 5,000 universities considered across 96 countries and regions.

The 2022 GRAS compare universities around the world in 54 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences.

The results are based on a range of academic indicators and third-party data that measure research output, research influence, international collaboration, research quality and international academic awards.

ShanghaiRanking also releases the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) each year in late summer.
