Men’s Soccer
The Tigers improved to 2-1 with a convincing win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies this Saturday. Bezick Evraire notched his second goal of the season in the 42nd minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Backup keeper Tristan Leopold withstood a flurry of chances by the Huskies in the second half and made seven saves to record his first shutout of the season in his first appearance. William Wright came off the bench and scored in the 78th minute to stretch the Tigers lead to two as they held on to win.
The Tigers will look to grab a victory on the road when they face the Cape Breton Capers on September 20th at 3:15pm. Watch live on AUSTv.ca
Women’s Soccer
The Tigers (1-1-1) came away from Huskies Stadium with a confidence-boosting 1-0 victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Despite controlling the game from start to finish, they couldn’t find the back of the net until Victoria Parkinson scored in the 71st minute. The Tigers kept up the pressure and they walked off the field with their heads held high as the whistle sounded, recording their first victory of the season.
Katie Morgan made four saves for her second consecutive shutout. Since coming off the bench in the first half of the Tigers season opener, Morgan has yet to allow a goal.
The Tigers head to Cape Breton on Saturday for their fourth game of the season. The action starts at 1pm and can be watched live on AUSTv.ca
Women’s Cross-Country
Ellen Chappell finished almost 30 seconds ahead of the competition and led the Tigers women’s cross-country team to their first victory of the season in Wolfville on Saturday. Colleen Wilson, Britany MacArthur, Emily Clarke, Maddy Crowell and Kayte Kowal finished third, fifth, sixth seventh and eighth, respectively. Emily Ferguson finished just outside the top ten in 12th.
The Tigers finished with 22 points to cruise to their first victory of the season as they look to defend their AUS championship. The Tigers head to Fredericton this Saturday for the UNB-STU Invitational.
Men’s Cross Country
The Tigers finished second in their first meet of the season behind an impressive StFX squad that ran away with the meet. Mathias Mueller led the Tigers with a ninth place finish, while teammate Jake Wing was right behind him in tenth. Graeme Wach, Nick Wood, Daniel Maguire and Mason Maxwell rounded out the day for the Tigers placing 13th, 16th, 25th and 37th, respectively.
The Tigers were the only team aside from StFX to have multiple runners in the top ten. They’ll be heading to Fredericton this coming Saturday to compete in the UNB-STU Invitational.
