Dalhousie University women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the commitment of Sarah Traynor to the 2013-14 women’s basketball team.
A three-year member of the Oakville Venom JUEL, Traynor is currently ranked second in free throw percentage in the JUEL (an elite provincial basketball league in Ontario). As a member of her high school basketball team, St. Ignatius of Loyola, she led her team in scoring this past season. A two-time league all-star, Traynor helped lead her high school team to two regional championships in the last three years. She was also the league all-star three-point shooting champion in 2012 as has received a number of other awards for her excellence on the court.
A three-year honour roll student and the 2011 and 2013 recipient of the JUEL Community Service Award for excellence in the classroom, on the court and in the community, Traynor has been accepted to Dalhousie’s Commerce program.
“From the first time I set foot on the court with the Tigers, I knew that this was where I wanted to play for the next four years,” says Traynor. “Together with Coach Anna, the girls made it easy for me to envision a positive experience and a great career at Dalhousie. I love the way the girls move the ball! Coach Anna made it clear that I am a student first and an athlete second and the staff at Dalhousie made me feel great about coming to a truly world-class university. I love Halifax and have family there; I am really looking forward to playing for Coach Anna and making a serious impact in the AUS. Go Tigers!”
"Sarah's a great fit for the Tigers as she's a top student and a strong leader on and off the court, with great point guard experience,” says Stammberger. “She's an outstanding defender who will immediately improve and increase our depth in the guard position."
