Swimming CIS Championships
Dalhousie’s swim team travelled to Calgary, Alta. to compete in the CIS championships from February 21-23. The men’s team ended 11 overall with David Sharpe claiming silver medals in the 100m and 50m backstroke, as well as a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly. Molly Wedge set a new Dal record in the 50m freestyle while the Tigers womens 400m and 800m freestyle relay teams set both Dal and AUS records. In the end the Dalhousie women recorded their best team finish in over a decade (fifth overall)!
Track and Field AUS Championships
The women’s track and field team brought home the AUS banner for the 24 consecutive time, and the men’s team claimed the AUS title for the 12 year in a row. At this year's championship event Elizabeth MacDonald set a new AUS record (17.07m) and brought home her fourth consecutive gold medal in weight throw. Fifth-year captain Simon Watts claimed first place in triple jump, high jump, and long jump, while Chantelle Robbertse and Rob McCulloch both earned gold in the indoor pentathlon. Rebecca Haworth claimed the women’s high jump title for the third year in a row. Clearly dominating the meet, Dalhousie earned over 30 top three finishes.
Women’s Basketball Dal 68 @ StFX 77, ACA 77 @ Dal 88
Starting the week off early, StFX hosted the Tigers Wednesday night. Dal came out strong and had a slight advantage at the end of the first quarter, but the X-Women stepped up their game and took the lead. The black and gold fought hard to catch up, with Keisha Brown scoring 22 points, but the Tigers couldn’t make up the difference in time, losing 77-68. Dalhousie was back in action Saturday night hosting Acadia in their final game of the regular season. Starting off as a close game, Dal was determined to claim the victory and took control of the court in the second half. With With Anna von Maltzahn scoring 22 points and Keisha Brown scoring 27 points Dal finished their regular season with a 88-77 win.
Men’s Basketball Dal 71 @ StFX 76, ACA 70 @ Dal 78
The Tigers travelled to StFX Wednesday night for their final away game of the season. Although the game was tied at the end of the first quarter, the X-Men soon took the lead. With a 20-point effort by Jarred Reid, the black and gold started to close the gap, but time ran out and the Tigers fell 76-71. In their final game of the season Saturday night against Acadia, Dalhousie took an early lead and didn’t let up until the final buzzer. Simon Marr led Dal with 19 points to a 78-70 victory.
