Tigers Weekend Recap (Nov. 2‑4)

Women’s Soccer
DAL 1 @ UPEI 0; DAL 3 @ CBU 1

Having finished in second place during the regular season, the women’s soccer team enjoyed a bye into Saturday’s semifinal of the AUS championship. A close match against UPEI saw Dal come out on top after Daphne Wallace scored to give the Tigers the victory. The following day brought the black and gold up against the undefeated Capers in the battle for the title. It was Wallace who once again found the back of the net first, but CBU tied it up in the second half. Beth O’Reilly scored soon after and then with minutes remaining Wallace netted an insurance goal for the 3-1 victory. Congratulations to the women on winning the 2012 AUS title for the second consecutive year and best of luck at the CIS Championship Nov. 8-11 in Victoria, BC!

Men’s Soccer
DAL 1 @ UdeM 0; DAL 3 @ UNB 4

On Friday the men’s soccer team faced les Aigles Bleus in the AUS championship quarter-final. After a scoreless first half, co-captain Nathan Rogers snuck one past the opposing keeper to give Dal the deciding goal. Saturday’s semifinal match versus the Varsity Reds was a high scoring and physical game. After a first half dominated by UNB, Rogers kept the Tigers in contention by scoring three goals, but Dal was unable to secure the victory and fell 4-3.

Women’s Volleyball
DAL 3 @ SMU 0 (20-25, 23-25, 14-25)

In women’s volleyball action the Tigers swept the Huskies in three sets on Thursday night at SMU. Leading the team in points was Marlee Powers (13.5) and Maggie Lee (11), both working hard to give Dal the victory. Cheer on the women this Saturday at 1pm at Dalplex versus UNB!

Men’s Hockey
UdeM 4 @ DAL 2, STU 0 @ DAL 2

Two back-to-back games at the Metro Centre this weekend extended the men’s record to 3-4-1. Friday night’s game against Moncton saw the Tigers tie it up in the third period, only to have two quick goals scored against them in the dying minutes. Saturday’s game versus STU remained scoreless until the third period when Ben MacAskill and Francois Gauthier found the back of the net, giving Dal a 2-0 win.

Women’s Hockey
SMU 2 (OT) @ DAL 1

On Sunday the women played a heated match against rival SMU at the Metro Centre. In a close contest, Dal’s Jenna Currie scored early in the second period only to be answered by a Huskies goal shortly after. Neither team was able to capitalize again during regulation, sending the game to overtime and then a shootout where SMU came out on top.

Swimming
Jack Scholz AUS Invitational Meet

At their second meet of the season hosted by Acadia, the Tigers were once again champions in both the men and women’s team categories. Improving the quality of their swimming with each meet, Dal had a number of event winners, including Keisha Mills, David Sharpe, Katie Webster and Molly Wedge. Their next meet will be the Dalhousie Invitational on November 17 at Dalplex.
