An action-packed weekend was highlighted by a well-earned AUS title, a semi-final heartbreak, and another victorious road trip for the swim team.

Women's soccer

Last Friday, the women’s soccer team headed to Fredericton to compete in the AUS championship. The third-seed Tigers easily dispatched hosts UNB 2-0 in the quarter-final game. Emma Landry and Dorianna Homerski scored and Taryn McKenna earned the shutout.

Saturday brought about a familiar rival in SMU. The black and gold dug deep and managed to pot three goals in the second half, ending the Huskies' season via a 3-2 defeat. Joanna Blodgett, Emma Landry, and Dorianna Homerski all scored in the victory.

Next Dal faced the top-seeded UPEI Panthers in the championship game. The Tigers soundly defeated the Panthers 2-0. Emma Landry contributed her third goal of the weekend and Joanna Blodgett sealed the victory with a goal in the dying seconds. This is Dal’s 11th women’s AUS soccer banner.

The Tigers will head to the CIS national championships hosted by McGill from November 10-13 in Montréal, Quebec.

Men's soccer

The fourth-seeded men’s soccer team started their AUS championship weekend in style, with a 3-0 quarter-final thrashing of UdeM. Tyler Lewars, Phil Parsons, and Ryan Palmer-Dixon all scored in the first half. Ben Ur made three saves to post the shutout.

Saturday’s semifinal matchup with UPEI saw the Tigers start strong, with a first half goal by Julian Perrotta. Unfortunately, two quick goals in the second half gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Strong winds and precipitation worked against Dal and they were unable to level the game. Dalhousie left Cape Breton with their heads held high, a strong season behind them.

Men's hockey

Men’s hockey hosted the StFX X-Men last Friday on a night where former goaltender Ken Bickerton was honoured. Ben Breault continued his strong play with a goal and an assist, but the Tigers dropped the game 7-2. The team travelled to Wolfville to battle Acadia on Saturday, but some unfortunate bounces saw Dal lose 5-1.

Dalhousie battles Saint Mary’s on Wednesday, November 9 at 7 p.m. at the Halifax Forum Arena. This weekend they will host the UNB Varsity Reds Friday, November 11 at 7 p.m. and the UPEI Panthers on Saturday, November 12 at 3 p.m.

Women's hockey

The women’s hockey team hosted UPEI on Saturday and MtA on Sunday. A low-scoring affair against the Panthers saw the black and gold come out on top with a 2-1 victory. Jenna Currie and Jocelyn Leblanc scored and Zoe Zivolak made 23 saves. The Tigers surely would have come away from the weekend with two victories if not for the Mounties goalie, who made 32 saves in Sunday’s game. Sarah McVey and Cassie Banfield scored first period goals, but Dal couldn’t hold on to the lead and lost 3-2.

The women travel to MtA and UPEI this upcoming weekend.

Swimming

Dalhousie’s swim team doubled their qualifiers for the CIS championships this past weekend at Acadia’s Jack Scholz Invitational. Both the women’s and men’s teams placed first, more than doubling the second place teams. Qualifying for the women were Michelle Campbell, Emmalina Corriveau, Keishia Mills, Meagan Bernier, and Alison Grant. The men added Matt Piggott to their previous list of five qualifiers.

Next up for the swim teams is the Dalhousie Invitational from November 19-20.
