Three days. Three venues. A whole lot of fun.
Beginning this Thursday, September 8 and through Saturday students, staff, faculty and alumni are invited to Dal Fest 2011, one of the many events organized by Dal Student Union’s orientation week committee.
The three day extravaganza will include live performances by over 15 bands including Bedouin Soundclash, Hollerado, The Idlers, Scientists of Sound, The Town Heroes, Signal Hill and Dal’s very own Jackson Jha. Bands will be performing at the Grawood, the Studley quad, and (on Saturday) on the quad's main stage.
Aside from a blend of musical performances, the DSU has several other activities planned for the three day ‘welcome back’ event that involve over 300 student volunteers who have dedicated their summer to making sure Dal Fest 2011 is one to remember.
This year, students and staff will have the opportunity to bounce around in a tiger shaped inflatable castle in the Studley quad, engage with various faculties and students societies who have set up an information table, and chat with local sponsors like Z103 and Live105.
Campus Vacations will also be on hand announcing the six winners of a trip to Mont Tremblant, a majestic ski resort in the heart of the Laurentian mountains of Quebec. Winners will include top frosh leader, top frosh participants, and 'random acts of awesomeness' participants.
Jamie Arron, DSU vice-president student life, is in charge of organizing activities during orientation week and says this year will be unlike any other.
“Typically, we’ve had an orientation week concert or event separated by years,” he explains. “So there would be something for frosh, something for returning students, etc. This year we’re bringing everyone together and having one big show. Dal Fest 2011 is going to be a full three days of music, activities, challenges and contests. It’s going to be awesome!”
