Sapphire sponsor

- February 10, 2011

Charlotte Butcher will compete in the halfpipe during the Canada Games.

As Halifax throws open its doors to the rest of the country on Friday with the opening ceremonies of the Canada Games, Dalhousie University is proud to be a Sapphire Sponsor.

The city will be welcoming approximately 3,000 competitors from across the country, and many Dalhousie students, coaches, faculty and staff are involved as competitors and volunteers.

During the Games, there will be a new Dalhousie ad campaign on billboards and bus shelters around the city, and at Ski Martock. Community design student, Charlotte Butcher, a member of Nova Scotia’s snowboarding team, is profiled on the ads that feature the message, “The Games brought you here. Let Dalhousie bring you back.” The same message will be displayed on banners and computer screens at the Athletes Village Internet café.

The Dalhousie bus will be on the move during the games. The bus will transport teams and officials to-and-from Stanfield International Airport, transfer VIPS and media, and shuttle athletes to Ski Martock and other venues.

Just as Dalhousie is proud to be a community partner, the university is equally proud of its student athletes and volunteers. Dal News will be running games-related stories featuring members of the Dal community, and Dalhousie Magazine will feature a cover story about the Dalhousie-Canada Games connections.
