Welcome back to campus

Dartmouth's own Matt Mays performs during Dalfest.

September is the time of year to get back into the demanding and often exhausting academic mode... but let’s not be too hasty. Perhaps students can ease back into late night studying and hard work by having a bit of fun first. This year’s Dalfest is taking place in the Studley Quad on Thursday. (That's the green space surrounded by the old stone buildings on the main campus.)

First-year students have orientation week, but Dalfest, created four years ago, is meant to welcome all students back. The event offers students free food, games, music and fireworks. It will run from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Hannah Dahn, the new DSU VP Student Life, says that it’s important on the first day of classes to, “remember that it’s not all about academics and that you need to have a good student experience as well. And it’s just a lot of fun to welcome everyone back and remind them that Dal is a fun place to be.”

Ms. Dahn is most looking forward to the fireworks, which will start at 10 .pm. She says they will be even bigger than last year’s.

As always, there will be some great music too. A free concert with Matt Mays on Studley Quad will run from 7 to 10 p.m.

Ah yes, and the final perk of Dalfest – the beer tent, which will be open throughout the festival until 10 p.m. Welcome back everyone!
