If you’ve walked around Shirreff Hall or the LSC lately, chances are you’ve noticed the newest additions to the University Children’s Centre and surrounding area.

Over the course of a 12-week project lead by Facilities Management, a new playground, gazebo and improved walkways have been built.

“The Children's Centre playground is greatly improved in size, appearance and interest,” Garry Martell, project leader from Facilities Management. “The walkways are well lit, spacious and they blend in seamlessly with those installed last year leading down to Shirreff Hall.”

Mr. Martell says there were several reasons behind this project—the need for an updated storm drain, wider walkways and enlarged play area for the children’s centre—which they were able to tackle all at once.

The changes haven’t gone unnoticed: “We are absolutely delighted with the beautiful new grounds, gazebo and playground,” wrote parent Vanya Ewart whose daughter attends the daycare. “My daughter and others really enjoy the incredible new park-like atmosphere you have created there.”

“The most noticeable benefit to the children’s centre is definitely the upgraded appearance,” says Mr. Martell. “But we can't overlook the functional fact that now rainwater will not enter their space during heavy rains.”
