The Dalhousie Tigers women’s basketball team recently raised $5,000 for the CIS-wide initiative “Shoot for the Cure”. The Tigers’ January 30 home game against Acadia was
designated as their Shoot for a Cure game.

To raise money for this project, the team sold tickets on a gift basket valued at more than $1500 and ran a number of promotions throughout the evening. Dalhousie’s Department of Athletics and Recreational Services also donated the profits from the game’s gate and the team received support from a variety of individuals and organizations.

Shoot for the Cure is a national initiative by Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to raise money and awareness in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF).

In its second season, the program has CIS women’s basketball teams “thinking pink” at regular season games, exhibition matches and tournaments. Last year, the league raised more than $50,000 and this year aims to double that figure.
